A big empty frame hangs there in the pale wall. Often people watch and ask questions and get stalled. There is a curiosity that eats up every visitor. Some keep it by themselves, some put it up in rumbles when they leave. He is a very social man. His group of friends grows large and large as he travels around places.  He is very amiable and talks a lot discussing his life’s adventures, but when it comes to that frame, he couldn’t help it. He watches it every day when he leaves home and when he comes back he stares the wall for long, while eating dinner.

How can he tell people that this empty frame is actually that void in his life for the person that he cannot find? It the secret place in his heart which pains when fired with those questions. He can never understand how can he be so perfect, being social and friendly to everyone, enjoying gossips, gatherings, parties and outings superficially, but cannot find a soulmate to share his depths. Relationships were never his game of play. He tried at times but he never found a suitable counterpart.

The photo-frame was his birthday gift. His mom put it there on the wall last summer when she came to visit him. She has always known about him being quite concerned about sharing his life with a person. She has known his deeper lone soul. The frame has been there since then giving a recurrent reminder of his solitude, but he stalled it in the same manner he stalled those questions.

He parked his car in the garage, it’s been a long work tour.  Climbing the stairs landing into his floor he saw a small dog, shivering, lying there at his front door. He too can feel the chills of the windy night even after being packed in layers of clothing. He picked him up and took inside. He rested him in front of the attic and lit the fire. The dog laid there in a cozy manner. The next morning when he woke up he saw him happily marrying around in his bed. He licked him as if he is returning the gesture of love and comfort he gave him last night.

Months after, the blank frame is replaced by a photo of him and his soulmate whom he accidently met one windy night.
